Looking into buying a 2008 SV650, concerns
Hi I’m new to the forum to try to gather info. I’m looking into buying a 2008 SV650 with about 2500 miles for under $2k. It’s been sitting for two years the lady feels it needs new oil and spark plugs before starting. To my knowledge the only issue would be bad fuel and maybe some moisture in the oil but nothing of major concern.
Any thoughts and knowledge is helpful as I really want this motorcycle but don’t want it to be a money pit to get running. Thanks, Jeremy |

Change all the fluids, spark plugs. Check/clean all the electrical connectors, make sure the brake callipers and pistons move freely, charge or replace the battery. Then see what happens when you start it.
It looks very clean and tidy. |

If I understand your post the bike is currently a non runner? If so it isnt worth 2k whatever it looks like. Its a ten year old project.

Pull and push back in all fuses. Looks like it could be a bargain and nice colour Well kept/maintained SV650s have been clocked over 125,000 miles and still going :O Also check the age of the tyres, https://www.tirebuyer.com/education/...-of-your-tires

It does look good. Was it stored inside, in a garage? That helps a lot to reduce corrosion from standing.
As Gary said above, it will need all the fluids changing if you bought it. It will NOT need new plugs right now. The fuel in the tank will be useless so I don't think there is any point trying to start it unless you siphon it out as best you can and put a couple of gallons of fresh fuel in there. Push it around a bit and apply the brakes a few times. After doing this, can you still push it easily or are the brakes sticking? |

From my understanding you are saying to buy then do all that? Would trying to crank it over before doing that really result in great damage? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I believe it was, the lady had said in storage and from most of the items from the pictures it doesn’t appear to have a ton of rust on any parts. I might take a gas can with me to try and get it to crank over, my real worry is if I don’t at least try to crank it over and it’s a dud then I’m stuck with a $1750 hunk of junk. It looks pretty much like my 1999 Curvy when I got it last year.16k on the clock but well looked after.I've been right through the machine as well and keep up regular maintenance as this could well be the last Motorcycle I buy
