Yohoahoy.

Finally got down to looking at what's wrong with the VTR and the engine oil is full of copper coloured glitter.

I guess the bottom end bearings gave up then...

That's a bugger What will you do - rebuild or another engine?

Morning all.

Weather is looking pretty reasonable today but I'm going to be stuck here at home for most of the day. As a council tenant, I've volunteered to take part in a trial run of a new format stock condition survey by the council. They are going to survey all the council housing stock, and those of us on the tenants scrutiny panel have offered our homes for an initial run of the survey. The team doing the survey anticipate taking 4 - 5 hours per property as it's a very detailed interior and exterior survey. The upshot is that I need to be present at least for the interior part.

I have a few jobs to do here, so I guess this gives me an excuse to get on with them.

How's the day going for everyone else?

Drat! Stock condition survey has been postponed as the surveyor is off sick. Ah well, I got a couple of small jobs done while I was waiting. I'll take Mabel for a walk now then.

Glad I made it out for a walk when I did. The days are so short now. It's 18.30 and pitch black out there, and I'm already thinking about going to bed!

Now running on full fibre. I've spent a few hours today removing all the old phone cabling and master socket. Sadly my old router wasn't compatible and I'm using the supplied Plusnet home hub, which is the same as the BT item except that it's white. I'll see how that performs and maybe buy something better.

You inspired me to check when fibre might come to my village (cabling was done a couple of years ago) and to my surprise it was available to order. Last time I checked in the summer, it was not available and no announcement made....

So I've ordered FTTP this morning!

Only £4 more than I'm currently paying.

And probably a lot faster too. I'm paying £5 less a month as I went for a fairly conservative package of 145/30mbs as apposed to the 50/10mbs that I was on. I could have something much faster but it felt like overkill.

The offer from EE was the same price for 150mbps as 900mbps, guess what I went for?!

I keep getting clueless salespeople at the door telling me the "exciting news" that full fibre from Vodafone/Go Broadband/Whoever is now available in my area. Really? Like the service I've had for over a year? [their face drops at this point, but they get back on script]. "We can offer you a great de... " NO! [look becomes grumpy, as they realise no commission to be earned here]

I should make a sign to hang on the garage door to save them the time and me the agro.
