Default Low resource Operating System for Gaming

This has only started happening recently with the hot weather. My laptop keeps overheating when I play delta force black hawk down. I know...
It's the cpu usage that seems to be the problem. When it gets very hot after about 30/40 minutes of use, the cpu usage goes up to 100%. This is probably because I only have on-board graphics.
So I was thinking if I got a operating system that used less resources that might help. The game will run on windows 98! lol. So if I got an old copy of windows 98 do you think that would help the cpu cope a little better?
Or would the game run on a different less resource hungry OS like linux maybe? I've got about 20gb space on the hard drive

got no idea but try taking off the CPU heat sink and graphics heat sinks ect and putting on some lithium grease as laptops usually have the lithium pads which dry up, did this to my laptop (before i threw it) and it work well

*edit, lithium grease helps heat transfer if you didn't know

What about the flux capacitor? Does it need lithium grease?

Arctic Silver is imho the best you can get, not sure which letter they are up to but my old 'tube' of Arctic Silver 3 has lasted 4 or 5 years so far!

grease is for greasing things

thermal paste is for providing heat transfer

grease would most likely be better than dry surfaces, but thermal paste is designed for the purpose

Is it an Intel CPU? If Intel CPUs get too hot they throttle themselves down so they don't fry, which is why it's using a relatively higher amount of processing power.

Edit: Different thermal transfer materials are called all sorts by manufacturers. Arctic Silver is a paste which contains a high concentration of particles of silver, hence it being good at transferring heat. Pretty expensive though, £5-7 for a tube of the stuff.
