Re: Look and weep
I'm with YC here at least on the scrambler Suzuki's off road colours were and still are yellow.
IIRC the yellow Yamaha Speedblocks design was Yamaha USA. Saying that no one really remembers half of the manufacturer colours. KTM used to be white and red... Realises I'm showing my age and saunters off.

Re: Look and weep
I dont think so I'm pretty sure that the British bikes were all a simple curved design. This is the USA version for King Kenny There are plenty of customs out there now mind you...

My ideal bike
Yep, I'll have that scrambler, please. Just fit dual purpose road biased tyres and a bash plate. It's time Suzuki caught up with the rest of the market - the new SV650 engine is, IMHO, the best mid sized engine around. It's under utilised at present and could surely form the heart of a number of derivatives, including a scrambler. For pure fun, this package would leave other manufacturers standing. When can I buy one, Suzuki?

Re: Look and weep
I think the striking looks of these two bikes are in a good part due to spoked wheels, I really like the look of spoked wheels on bikes and cars (even though they a pain to keep clean) as long as they are tubeless.
Wouldn't like to take a 400lb + bike off tarmac if seat was any higher than 30" though (which is probably why GS1200's stay firmly on hard and fairly smooth surfaces because weighing in at 600lbs + with a high seat it would be a brave / foolish man that went onto anything soft, loose or uneven). I think the new SV engine is an absolute gem, but I never rode an earlier model than the AL7 (It was the lovely unique sound that made me notice the SV650 / Gladius first, before I knew much about it).

Re: Look and weep
I see Suzuki are offering a 'scrambler' version of the SV650 in France. Looks like a token effort - half a job - and misses an opportunity to create a really exciting machine around such a great engine. If the French project is about testing the market, perhaps Suzuki will go away and rethink before bringing out a more exciting machine in the UK. We can only hope!
