Wheel sizes
Just out of curiosity.
Can the sv take a wider rear wheel? If so can it take say a 180? And then would the front need to be changes to accommodate. What would the handling characteristics be like? e.g. bigger tyre faster turning etc etc? |

Bigger tyre, slower turning usually. But bigger contact patches when leaned. And also, look good. It's not really a mod you'd do for handling purposes, unless you've got a 100 BHP SV. I know my bike won't suffer badly from it since the handling characteristics are already best described as "too fast"
B12 is a pretty easy fit in the curvy, I've not done it yet though, fundamentally because I suck No idea for the pointy, but I've one in the garage you'd be welcome to try... 2, in fact!

I wouldnt go too big on the rear. Although a fat tire looks hot, since you dont have gobs of power it will want to straighten out while leaning.

What would you go up to? Do they still make 170/??.
Certain makes/types are wider than others. Pointy Avons used to wear a hole in front mudguards of certain bikes. Certain oversized tyres will rub against your hugger or worse your chain! ( no more chicken stripes on that side! ) For me fitting summit sticky beats summit fatter. hmmm(hic) |

The Azaro 170/60 was designed to fit safely, if not very effectively, on a 4.5 inch wheel... But apparently most 160s are slightly pinched on a 4.5, never mind going bigger. Don't really know how true this is, I know back in the dawn of time they were recomended fitment for 5.0 wheels. But these days, the tyre companies most know probably 2/3 or so of all 160/60s go on a 4.5, so I'd be amazed if they don't take that into consideration.
I'm going to fire a 180 on the B12 wheel and see how that works out... No science in that at all, it's just what happened to be cheap Oh aye, Bandit 12 wheel and carrier is lighter than an SV wheel. I doubt I'll notice

BILLY, your SV happens to be the sweetest curvey ive seen for a while. i would love to model mine on yours. What front end is that?
Also my rear is still a 160 and i belive its the best way to keep it, anyone dissagree? |

I think there's most likely no benefit to going fatter, other than looks... In fact, there's a few people run a 150 for faster turning. But there's not neccesarily any downside either. Personally, I'm doing it purely as it's an interesting mod and looks good. My bike'll still turn faster and better than most SVs, so the possibility of a negative handling impact doesn't bother me in the slightest
