Removing complete exhaust - what is holding it in?
Hi all,
I am just working on removing the exhaust system on the project engine that has just arrived - can't really lay have it upright due to the front exhaust running under the bike, the clamping ring around the exhaust has been removed (previous owner snapped 1 of the studs) and thats free but it still won't budge. Is there anything else holding this exhaust into the head, I don't want to damage anything trying to remove it! |

No, it'll just need a good pull

He's done that Bib, although a tap with a rubber mallet might help
My curvy ones needed pulling forward, with my arms, whilst I braced my feet on the footpegs to get my headers out. A plank between the header & cylinder head and jemmying the pipe out was another thing I did I think

Ok, I will have a go in a bit, wasn't sure if there was anything else holding it in apart from the run around the exhaust that it held in by the studs and nuts.
I am guessing the front is hard to remove due to the fact that its the pipe that usuall get hit by all the muck off the road lol |

No, I think the heat from the pipe sets it in the curve that its in, and its like heat treating a spring and it only wants to remain in that shape, if that makes any sense?

Ah ok, that makes sense then, I will just get a long bit of wood and try and get it off, hopefully they will be in a good enough shape to reuse for a custom exhaust lol

Its stainless steel and responds to a good polish

Should've seen the 99 naked I went to see this afternoon, almost concourse, with only 5120 miles on it.
Shiny shiny downpipe
