Unhappy Front cylinder not firing - why?

Was about to go for a ride, got about half a mile up the road and I noticed the bike wasn't pulling properly, a distinct lack of power compared to what it should be. I pulled over (my dad was following me on his bike, so pulled over as well) and the fuel light was on, so I thought I might have been running low on fuel. My dad rode back home, brought some petrol with him and we filled the bike up.

Tried starting the bike and it was not firing up correctly, sort of stuttering and wouldnt idle, would just die. We noticed the front cylinder wasn't firing, so we checked the front spark plug, which still works. We've run out of ideas as to why it doesnt want to fire. Anyone else had this problem?

Just now I've noticed that the front cylinder doesn't want to fire until the bike is revved over around 4000rpm.

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers

When you say the front plug works, have you checked it for spark?

Yea, it definitely sparks. My dad is having a fiddle with the bike outside now. He's a mechanic, and knows a Royal Enfield inside and out (he imports and sells them) but doesn't know much about newer bikes

It's possible you had some crap it the bottom of the tank and running it low have a partial blockage of the injector for the front cylinder.

easy check, you dad wil understand it as crap in the carb float bowl

Cheers Mark.

Dad has just swapped the spark plugs over and it seems to be running fine now. I told him about the SV's problem with water in the front plug, and he said it was all gunked up when he took the spark plug out. Just in case, I'm going to get a couple of spare spark plugs and if this happens again, I'll replace both of them

Cheers for your help guys!

You should really look at stopping it happening again. 2 options - fit a fenda extenda to the front mudguard, or get some of the goop from maplins (someone, i'm surewill post the link for it) to cover the front plug cap in.

I'll look into getting a fender extender - I've seen some on ebay and they're going quite cheap. I was looking forward to the ride today before this happened, its a right bugger

Thankfully got it sorted now though, ready for work tomorrow

The one in the tube, not the spray can... and smear it around the plug cap (the rubber seal at the cylinder head)
What Northy said.
