Default help with starting - YC

curvey 2001

Narrowed down a starting problem to either,

ignition barrel

ignition coil

ignition unit

my question is which on would you swap out first.

the bike will turn over ever time, some times it will turn over but not start. if you turn the bike off then on it will run first push of the button. it normally does this after its been riden.

please help me.

bike runs superb when it runs, the battery is fine, will turn the bike over for quite a while cold before it takes its toll but then the bikes charging it bk to norm after when i do ride it.

ive just been out on it and it didnt do it once, its so annoying. ive brought a new ignition control unit going try tht. if it still does it ill hve the change the ignition barrel.

it does start if you turn it off then bk on but i dont want to take the risk and ride it with this intermiten fault, get some where and it die completly.

Why have you got the list of 3? All these 3 are needed to run the bike just as much as they are needed to start it. If it was ignition barrel/wiring it would randomly die. If it was coils it would run like $hit. If it was ICU box then it would do wierd stuff when running.

Sounds like the battery to me. Or maybe carburetion.

Or hang on a minute... is this a problem from hot or cold? Or both?

battery is allways the 1st problem off most bikes

i relised the coil were a no go after i posted,

the battery is good, it is an up rated one i beleve and has been fine. even fired the bike up in the snow.

it can do it randomly, like i said i just been out on it and nothing.

last sunday it did it every time, monday it did it cold and once it was hot.

yest my dad took it all apart cleaned all the connections, checked fuel and other bits and pieces and all was fine, it didnt do it all the time the bike was at home, i went out on it thinking brill its not doing it any more and then it wouldnt start, werid thing was i put the choke on and it worked but might have just been a coincedence with me turning it off and on.

then today its not done it at all.

like i said bike run great, plugs are clean and not getting soaked or too dry so fueling is right.

ive gto the ignition control coming now o ill try it any way.

Get volt meter and check voltage when you crank, if its getting below 10V then id say that its the battery

So you saying it turns over but doesn't fire? Does it do it cold and hot?

no doesnt fire

it did it when i tried to start the bike after school eventually went, gave a friend a lift to the train station.

turned it off and then wouldnt start gain. eventually went and ran fine again. so yes hot and cold but then it doesnt do it at all.

my dad had it hot enough for the fan to come on and it wasnt doing it at all.

ill check the battery to mo maybe it not letting enough amps out or some thing.
