Default 40 dangers from the 70's

They didn't seem that dangerous at the time...

#2: of course you had to draw the fire, how else would you get it to catch? OK, the newspaper might occasionally ignite and you'd have to throw it up the chimney and risk setting the soot/tar combo alight - suddenly remembering you hadn't had the chimney swept for a while.

Remember fuse boxes? None of these namby pamby circuit breakers. Lights out? Find the torch (then the batteries for the torch). Locate the fuse box and pull out the fuse holder, hopefully the fuse wire will be next to the fuse box otherwise go look for the fuse wire (preferably of the correct amperage). Carefully wrap the fuse wire around the terminals of the fuse holder, replace and "voila" it blows again because there's a faulty bulb somewhere. Repeat after switching off lights.

Those were the days... (thankfully gone). Nostalgia is best viewed via binoculars as you speed away from the recollection.

Our house (built in 1971) still has one of those fuse boxes .... the box probably has an asbestos backing, too!

Fantastic list. So many of those public information films really did bring back memories!

My Dad never really understood electricity - he would replace the fuse wire with the correct rating but use several strands o make sure of good contact!
