Re: Alarms
I have a datotool alarm on my bike and its a pain in the a**e. It automatically arms its self, so it'll go active whilst your filling it up, you have to switch it to valet mode to clean the bike, it still beeps every 60 secs when in that mode. It's a royal pain. It came with the bike and I have to say I will never ask for an alarm to be fitted to any bike I may buy in the future.

Alarms
I'm considering getting an alarm for the bike, right now it just has an old immobiliser.
How much should I spend, is it really worth it as the insurance didn't care that I had one or not? |

Re: Alarms
If you don't get an insurance discount, it's only worth it for your piece of mind. How much is that worth?
Personally, I have a £30 alarm on my bike. Some people spend 10x that. What's your budget? |

Re: Alarms
Well, £30 is doable. More than that i'd feel a little bit like was was grabbing my ankles waiting for someone to take a run up.

Re: Alarms
Just mulled over this dilema, since I'm getting a new bike. It was not worth it for the insurance discount where I live - not a lot goes missing round here. I decided to get one anyway for the times I'm away. Would like to be woken up if someone tries to nick my bike while I'm in France for instance.
So I'm getting it for piece of mind, not to save money. |

The same folks also make a more expensive version (£60) with more bells & whistles. From there, your options start really at £90 ish and go up. |

Re: Alarms
I may tied next doors rotweiler to it overnight and be done with it.
It's kept in my front garden and covered, though I have a bus stop outside and it's very busy. It would be less for people trying to make off with the bike and more to stop the little chav cnuts dikcing around with it when they're bored at the stop. |

In fairness, they were probably egged on by me letting my kids hit the pillion seat to trigger the alarm after I'd fitted it, and it was all harmless stuff. It all ended after I hooked the horn to the "remote start" option of the alarm, and waited in hiding for them to go near the bike. |

Re: Alarms
I'm worried they'll kick it over, but they'd do that alarm or not I guess.
