Default Squeaky Brakes

Anyone know what would cause this? They're fine when riding and don't squeak. I only notice it when parking up.

I took the pads out and cleaned the back of them. Cleaned the springs and pins too. Plenty life in the pads. Discs are getting low but still above the minimum thickness.

I cleaned all the disc bobbins too, although I don't think that is anything to do with the sound now. Sounds like it is the pads rubbing on the discs.

Calipers are probably due a strip down but the pistons are moving fine and there isn't any corrosion in there.

That sounds like the culprit Darren. It may be that the pistons aren't retracting quite far enough.

only way to tell if its the pads is to take them out and spin the wheel. if it is the pads then something is not right. also if it is the pads then it sounds like a slightly warped disc. could also be build up on the disc.

When the pads got close to the limit on my Concours, it would squeak when pushed backwards (e.g. down my steep driveway). New pads cured.

Thanks for the replies.

It does only seem to do it when the wheel is moved backwards. The pads were new in May last year though, so not that old.

There isn't a lot of resistance to move the wheel, so it's not like they are binding tight.

Doesn't seem to be any build up on the discs. But they do have a slight lip on the edge. Not sure if the fact they are wavey discs would make them sound warped? They've done about 22k miles

I think I might get the calipers rebuilt
