SV650N or Triumph Street Triple
Hello guys
Would like some opinions on whether to change my SV for the Street Triple 675. I have been offered a very low insurance quote from Hastings Direct for £130 TPFAT. Are maintenance costs, parts servicing etc higher. Fuel consumption at 38mpg is a major considewration. Your opinions are welcome as I do not have a lot of experience with bikes. I'm off for a test drive over the weekend. Thanks for all the advice guys I am having a test rider next Monday but will leave it a year or two before trading up. You don't buy a new bike to save money
I'd do it if I were you |

Re: SV650N or Triumph Street Triple
I'd do it if I were you but then again I'm biased. You should get about the same out of a tank on the Street as the SV or maybe even a bit more. The Daytona will do 160 miles. Triumph dealerships are generally further afield.
They're both great bikes but if you have a bikini faired SV it will be more suited to longer trips the the triple. Have fun deciding! (P.S. The Street Triple R is even better.) EDIT: In response to Rictus's reply below I (fortunately) haven't had to buy any parts due to breakages so I've taken the line out about that. Last edited by monkey; 13-04-09 at 11:42 PM. |

Re: SV650N or Triumph Street Triple
Funnily enough as you say "I do not have a lot of experience with bikes." I wouldn't, I don't know how long you've had your SV? but to learn on, drop and repair and forgiving to ride the SV is both easier and cheaper, get some experiance on it and once you are confiedent move onto something (street or whatever) to stretch your abilities, whilst it's possible to learn on any bike, triumph parts aren't cheap.
Cheers Mark.

Rictus makes sense. Second hand bits and bobs aren't anywhere near as plentiful for the Street as the SV

Re: SV650N or Triumph Street Triple
I wouldn't insure a Street Triple TPFT

Re: SV650N or Triumph Street Triple
Guy I work with has had bikes for donkeys years (all sorts), anyway earlier this year he traded in his 07 plate zx6r and his old Suzuki bandit 12 on a new street triple (they actually ended up giving him money I think) and he says it is absolutely without a doubt the best motorbike he has ever owned/ridden bar none. Its just about the only new bike I'd like, personally I'd say go for it.
