Anyone know how to fix a rose joint?

As some of you know i threw my bike down the track the other day. As I now have a couple of weeks recuperating I thought I'd sort out one or two things on the bike.

I've got a new, snazzy fold in gearshift lever to replace the one that's getting quite short on the sv. Brilliant, thinks I, I'll fit it.

Once it was on, I tried it out by pushing down gently, and I hear a Ping!

The rose joint from the lever end has come off of the ball it's supposed to sit on.

Anyone know how these things are supposed to go together? It'll go back in, but I think the ping was the metal ring that's supposed to hold it in flying off to god knows where! Can I get a new ring (ooer missus) and if so, how do I fit it back on?

I refuse to accept this for your sake bear. Im sure there must be a way to make sure it stays on, theres a bodge for every job!

Ben (21quest) or Northwind should be able to help you out. Or you could ask the fonts of all SV knowledge, Sir Squidly or Rictus!!

Some sort of circlip thing? You might be able to find another one the same size, if you're lucky, but that might not be possible. Have you tried the makers of the lever? Actually, how come you're not sending it back? Or have I misunderstood what's gone wrong?

From what I gather, he mighta done something to break it...he said something went ping

Mind you, it shouldnt break easily, so it must be a manufacturing fault.

Cant you drill a hole through and use a pin sort of thing to hold it in place?

Do a google image search, there is normally one on you foot brake leaver.
