Default erratic Idle & jerky low speed performance

Been living with this for a while now, but it's starting to spoil my riding pleasure, I have a '99 curvy, Just balanced the carbs, fitted new chain & sprockets, & blasted the carbs through with carb cleaner, I've looked at the search facility and am wondering if it's related to sticking choke plungers.... although I hardly ever use the choke, the idle fluctuates between 1000, and 1500 rpm but it's the low speed almost kangaroo like performance that is the most annoying, the midrange & top-end is fine...

any suggestions?

Cheers

John

Running a little lean perhaps.

When you blip the throttle does it hang up? Or drop below?

Is it worse hot or cold?

Cheers Chris, I've stripped the Choke plunger's out this morning and found that the plunger assy on the rear cylinder had a broken spring, and the brass fittings on both carbs were oxidised-up along with the plungers, the choke cable was sticking on the rear cylinder due to rust, so I cleaned & lubricated everything and put it all back for the time being, and the difference is amazing, the idle is now rock steady at 1200 rpm, and the curvy's low speed manners are perfect...

best wishes

John

Hi and welcome to the 'Org Al, the only way to persuade 'em out is lot's of release agent (Rocket WD40 or similar) and plenty of persistance, try working the choke lever frequently as you apply the penetrating jollop, and you should prevail.... sounds like you have the same prob I had, it's well worth the effort once you have shifted 'em and cleaned, greased & re-fitted 'em...... good luck matey
