It's a tiny piece of metal with a step cut in to it and it advances the ignition by several degrees (usually four in this case) to give a better spread of power and torque (with possibly a slight increase overall). Costs around twenty quid, not too easy to fit and is not of great benefit for a K3 as the ignition system/timing is a little different.

Speaking of which Jonboy, have you fitted it yet? Not hassling, just asking without agenda or demand

No. Just have to get the gasket ordered (need to get into Cambridge to see the dealer who won't order it until I pay up front on the premises and I just haven't had a second to get there yet) then I'll sort it. Real soon, promise.

....and FWIW slotting the pick-up mounting holes will give you 2deg advance, saves the cost of the stepped key and means you don't need to remove the rotor.

The reason you can only get 2deg is that the pick-up body hits the mounting boss......................apparently!

Unless you trim the heads of the screws, then you can get a bit more, .

I'd use the key, no cutting of anything and easy back to standard if necessary.
