Using "Pointy" Tensioners in a "Curvy"?

Hi. I've got a 2000 model SV650S (curvy) and its got that annoying rattle from the cam chain tensioners. Its more noticable once its warm.

Since I got the bike in March this year i've twice taken the cam-chain tensioners out and made sure they were returning Ok once wound in and they seemed fine. And once they are refitted the bike is quiet for a few miles (literally) and then u can hear the noise again.

It seems the tensioners on the Curvy SV's are a dodgy design as they are often talked about on here for making noise.

I was thinking of buying a pair of cam-chain tensioners that are meant for the K4 model SV (Pointy model) and fitting them to my Curvy ('00) SV as i see they use a "spring and ratchet" design and havent heard of any problems with them being noisy.

Has anyone else fitted "Pointy" Tensioners to their "Curvy" SV to fix that annoying rattle?

I'm pretty sure they'll fit and will probably order a couple anyway to try, but i just wondered if anyone has tried it?

(Little noises bug me and its the sort of thing that puts me off riding it as much as i would like.)

Yes its the best way they are alot better, I think its only K3 and K4 you can use as K5 went to a totally different tensioner that wont fit

I believe the K5 tensioner got an oil feed. I'd use K3 to be sure.

Edit: or indeed manual ones.

Mine has K3 tensioners in... It still rattles a little but nothing like as bad as stock- I had to replace a tensioner after it stuck, and it made no sense to buy a curvy one.

+ 1 for the K3 CCT's.

Oh yeah... I got my first one from a dealer as I was in a hurry, but then I picked up a blown K3 engine for £90 and sold the bits i didn't want for £150, and kept a tensioner for the other cylinder

I got two K4 Tensioners off ebay and fitted them at the weekend. The front tensioner is an awkward sod to get at!....I made a couple of new gaskets up using a sheet of gasket paper that i've had laying around for ages. It took me about 4 hours to fit the k4 tensioners and get my bike back together. It started to get dark outside (and started raining....grrr) while i was finishing doing it.

Anyway, took it for a ride and that seems to have quietened the engine up....
Happy again now...^^

i put K3 CCTs on my 2000 curvy ... they fit like a glove

you know why they have oil feed?
because they don't make ticking noise when oiled
there is little plate in 99-02 tensioner that rattles around making ticking noise.front more due to oil draining straight down out of it.
I trust 99-02 tensioner more than any other.
manuals are more pain than worth.
