Default first vinyl.

kids are finally in bed, wife transfixed to 'most haunted'. nothing for me to do and that is when my mind starts to wander. looking back on the good old days i start to think about the first record i bought, i think it was 'town called malice' by the jam straight to #1 on release. i was bunking off school at the time, tender age of 13.
so join me on memory lane, straight on about 100 yds and left at the lights, and tell us where were you and what record in what year?

Judy in disguise - John fred and playboy band. 1968 ish I think.

Bought it off the juke box man who serviced the pub, but it had a big hole in the middle and I had to keep pushing this plastic thing into the middle.

20 years later I started buying juke boxes to put the records in, its easier.

i forgot about the big hole, we used to have a radiograme, a sideboard with a turntable that you could stack 40 singles on the centre pin and if the 3 spoke came off you'd have vinyl everywhere. great fun.

I think it was the 7" yellow vinyl of Therapy's "Trigger Inside", in about 1994... Bought at a record fair in Oban, when they were randomly overrun by bikes on some huge rideout. Record fairs are the best way of buying music, it's like being a hunter... Much less fun when you've actually got some money to spend though.

Vinyl's rubbish obviously, but I still love it, especially the good quality heavy discs in a proper sleeve. Gatefold 12"s or plain white demo sleeves, mmm... And let's not forget the shaped 12", can't do that with an MP3...

This: Stranglers IV
One Saturday in 1977, £3.25 from Listen in Paisley High Street. I've since bought it again in vinyl, cassette and CD.
