Default Lubricating clutch lifter?

While I've got my front sprocket cover off for chain cleaning I want to give the worm drive and bottom part of the clutch cable some lubing and protection from the elements. Am I better off dousing with WD40 or coating liberally with multi purpose grease? Thanks.

clean then grease, so spray wd40 in to clean it out then get some spray grease and blast that in. do not be tempted to dismantle it, trust me it will drive you nuts trying to put it back together.

Thanks. Yeah, I think leaving it in one piece is sensible. I don't have any spray on grease, just the stuff in a tub. Will that do the job?

I would just spray on a bit of chain lube. If you've done more than about 20k miles then the thing is probably banjoed anyway, the worm is made of cheese and the balls gouge it. How's that for a sentence.

i was going to say chain lube will do. if you can pack the grease in there nice ad tight then yes go ahead and use the tub stuff. dont use coppergrease.

Johnny is right most clutch troubles are caused by the wormgear and they are a bit fubar around 20-30k

Thanks guys. I sprayed the whole thing liberally with Wurth dry chain lube in situ. Didn't bother with the grease.
