Head shape and helmet differences?
Just talking to someone today about getting a good helmet, and the comparisons between Schloe and Arai.
I have been told by him, and heard it from others that "you are either an Arai head shape or a Schloei head shape." Anybody an ideas as to what the difference is? Thanks Sam |

Re: Difference between heads?
a good helmet is one that fits properly no matter what the badge on it is.

Re: Difference between heads?
Schloei,??
I'm guessing you mean Shoei ? I went shopping for a new lid recently and had the choice between the two, both around the same price.......£350 or so. I went for the Shoei as it fitted better but bloody hell it is noisey compared to my old one it replaces, also a Shoei. Ear plugs are a must have now. Apart from that it is far superior to my older one. The perifial view is so much better as is the visor demist & ventilation. In fact the ventilation is so good it gives you quite a unique hair style when you take the lid off, almost like one of those wind tunnel tests where they inject streams of smoke to see how the air flows!!! Re: Difference between heads?
Shoei changed shape between the XR1000 (which suited my oval head) and the XR1100 (more suited to a rounder head) so not necessarily true. I had a Caberg flip front that was a great fit. I tried on a far more expensive Schuberth when the time came to replace it and it was terrible, loose at the sides but pressed hard on my brows, slipped forward if pushed at the neck, just no good at all, despite being a top of the range piece of kit.
So as others have said, the one that fits is the one for you, don't get too hung up on brand names as long as it's one of the decent makes, isn't so noisy you go deaf and is comfortable.

Re: Difference between heads?
There's lids with parts you can replace for different sizes (Aria for one). Others have pump up pads..
Try all sorts and find the one's that fit. Most comfortable of all my lids is a kbc. 1/3 of the price of my Aria.

Re: Difference between heads?
Back in the day, Arai fitted better if your head had flat sides like Alien (and me), and Shoei if you had a football for a head. As said there are adjustable padding things etc. these days, and I believe Arai have two shell shapes depending on the model e.g. Quantum was flat. You could tell the rounder-shelled Arais as they wouldn't sit flat on a table (the bottom edge) - a coincidence before the pedants chime in. TBh that was a few years ago so things may have changed again. I could never find a comfortable Shoei for this reason.
