Paddock Stands
I want to buy a rear paddock stand as the SV is the first bike I've had without a centre stand.
I've seen one at http://www.fastbikebits.com which a mate at work has got. You put the supports under the swing arms to lift the back up. However you can buy bobbins which screw into the swing arms and a hook kit as well. Does anyone know if it is worth spending the extra money to get this hook kit? Does it make it easier and safer to get the bike up? Is it easier if there is only one of you? He says he gets his missus to hold the bike level as he puts the supports under. I can't see my missus risking that. Cheers for your help. |

Some people prefer the bobbins and others are happy with cups. I've got the rubber cups and am more than happy. Putting the bike on the rear paddock stand takes seconds and is definitely only a one man job (keeping the grab rail makes it a whole lot easier).

I'd go for the hooked stand and bobbins, Jonboy is a muscle bound Adonis and may have no problem with wrestling a toppling motorbicycle around, but for the rest of us mere mortals the hooks and boobins make the business of erecting our machines upon a paddock stand a much more secure affair.

I bought a Micron stand, then ordered a set of hooks for it.
It makes it a simple job to put the bike on the stand. and it is universal, it will fit any bike fitted with bobbins. I can upgrade this stand into a front paddock stand by purchasing an extra bit which goes up into the fork centre tube as well. And you get a fancy metal sticker with Micron on it |

I also bought a micron stand with bobbins (yesterday for £52
including the bobbin kit). Im a newbie rider that has never used a paddock stand before but i found this easy to use, and it felt very secure. Yes and the little badge looks cool. |

I've just bought bobbins and stand from ebay - £6.50 inc p&p for bobbins and £15 for the stand. Have a look cos there's loads on there.

I've got bobbins and I'd say the are the way to go. My stand came with the black rubber cups but when working on it I found that the depending on where precisely on the swingarm you put the cups before lifting it, the bike could slide backwards along the cups, getting lower as it went. Not good. With the bobbins its rock solid.

I've never seen the problem with the cups myself- I'm feeble (10 stone) and even when I was on crutches and not able to bear weight on my right leg I had no trouble at all getting my bike onto the stand. The trick is to stick something under the sidestand to straighten the bike up, makes it much easier.
