Default Licence entitlements and the DVLA

Im planning on taking my driving test soon and am a little worried about all the reports of new licences coming back missing motorcycle entitlement, I have been on the DVLA website and as with any company that holds personal info you can write to them for a 'data subject request' (costs £5), do you think this will be worth it and does any one know why they need the 'reason for request'?

(can't exactly put reason as 'coz you're all a bunch of muppets and i want to make sure you don't 'lose' my motorcycle licence!')

Apparently it dont help... Take photo's photo copyies and anything else you can think of anyway... just incase it is helpful. If they are dicks over the phone then visiting them in Swansea apparently solves it.

Scary i've lost my paper section of the license, i dont think i'll bother getting a replacement from the DVLA.

If i lost my license i'd lose my job then i'd be homeless, its that serious.

Heads should roll at the DVLA for a stupid attitude and sheer incompetence which has the potential to wreck lives!

*rant over* :P

Getting a copy of the data they hold on you currently isn't a bad thing, a fivers not that much and its peace of mind later if/when you have to send in licence for any reason

I've just kept hold of pass certificate etc from test.

But yeah, data request would be good. And reason "I don't trust you incompetent swines" is perfectly reasonable!

If you are able to get a data request accepted then that would be one piece of evidence but as the others have said, photocopy / scan and anything else should be done.

A reason for the data request could be that you are preparing a security information pack at work for Human Resources - Anything to do with security / HR and nowadays Health and Safety seems work with most things!

I reckon the data request would be a fiver well spent, just think how glad you'd be if it all went pear shaped and you had that evidence.

I understand that photocopies are only considered if they are accompanied by a signed statement from a solicitor or similar that it is a true copy. Line 'em up, Ed.
