Default Ticking noise - K3

hiya people

my pointy (K3) ticks every now and then, finally got round to find out how/why

It makes a ticking sound from around the throttle bodies/front cylinder head area, is most noisey at about 3k rpm, and only happens when the engine is warm.

What are your thoughts?

Edit: its not the radiator fan

Its an SV.....they all do that, only need to worry when it has a big clonk in between the ticks!

The SV650 does it, at any age, all its life, the SV1000 does it, the VRaptor650 does it, the Raptor 1000 does it and mostly the TL1000 does it......TL stands for TICKS LOUDLY

These engines do sound a bit "tappety".

The front cam chain tensioner on my curvy rattles a bit. There was a thread recently with a link showing a CCT taken apart. There's a sleeve in there that has a little movement. Particularly noticeable on the front as it doesn't get much oil. Don't know if that's an issue for the pointy.

You may be getting other "normal" top-end noises from cams, chains etc. I wouldn't be too worried about the tappet clearances if they've been checked within the normal interval. I've been reliably informed on here that they tend to tighten over time so there wouldn't be an increase in noise if you had a problem - the opposite in fact.

It's worth checking out though. Just because these are noisy engines doesn't mean your horn bracket isn't loose (for example).
