Re: Bar conversion with pics
Wow, was it really well over a year ago that I finished my bike? To remove the play from the back end, I required the fitting of one of Lance's shims on my swing arm bearings and the bike was then perfect. Once she was done, I then clocked up a couple of hundred miles and even completed an advanced riding course with the Rozzas last summer. It was while on this course that I got a telling off for riding a dangerously modified bike! My number plate was an inch too narrow! Cheers for that Rozzas...
DSC04682 by Jayne Carter, on Flickr Sadly, I am not currently riding anything other than an expensive office chair. Through out this build, I was complaining of back pain and the like that I put down to an accident that I had in work while employed by Halfrauds. That injury exacerbated another medical problem that I have, which has now got out of control. The result is that none of my problems are now repairable, but the pain can be managed for the rest of my life, with medication and care. My aim is to be back on my bike next year, which with the support of my local pain clinic is now an achievable aim. They are positive enough as to think that I may even be able to get back on my mountain bike, which is fantastic news. I wont ever be a professional climber or mountain biker again, but I will be able to ride my bikes, which is the important thing. All of those modifications to Sylvie were great fun, I loved doing the work where I could and I learned so much about motorcycle mechanics. I may be an arthritic old bag these days, with a face like a bulldog licking wee off a nettle, but at least I have the best SV ever made! Final note, several of the photos I used in this thread went missing due to linking to Farcebook. I have replaced them as best as I can, but some are sadly gone forever. Hopefully, none of you will mind. |

Re: Bar conversion with pics
We all look forward to the "I'm back on my bike" thread Jayne. Sounds like you have a great bunch of people in that clinic.

Re: Bar conversion with pics
If it ever seems a bit uphill Jayne, watch that documentary about Ian Hutchinson's recovery after his leg got smashed. If he can go through that and still win TT's...

Re: Bar conversion with pics
A very long thread, I'll be brief.
I'm amassing parts for the naked conversion. Renthal ultra-low streetbars are a common choice. I wish to use the 4cm taller 'low' bars. Is there enough slack in the electrical harness to extend this high? |

Re: Bar conversion with pics
Curvy or Pointy
Curvy you'll need throttle and choke cables, although just the upper choke cable. The clutch should be long enough. I used the naked cables on mine which have plenty of slack.

Re: Bar conversion with pics
08 pointy. Clutch cables etc ok. When I spoke to the boss at the wreckers, he said be mindful of the amount of play in the electrical cables and since I have abs, the cables are that little more tricky to move. Might be better to go ultra-low and maybe taller clamp risers if there is wiggle room.

Re: Bar conversion with pics
Yep, I know Jayne who started this thread extended the cables.
Mine was fine, I think I rerouted the electricals
