Exclamation Need help! Bikes knocking somewhere?

Hey
New to the forums, hoping you guys can help me.

I have a suzuki sv650s k3 and recently i was overtaking a car and a sudden knocking came on.
I listened to the engine using the old screwdriver trick and it seemed to be louder where my cam chain is.

I read into it and found out that about 15k miles its common for an sv's cam tensioner to fail.. In this case would cause knocking / slapping by the chain against the casing right? My bikes done around 15.5k miles.

I've ordered a APE manual cam chain tensioner and im hoping this will save me a few hundred £.

The bike starts absoulutly fine, i've not had any loss of power at all.. but this noise is unbareable.. its embarrasing.

Hoping to goto beaulieu on it in 2 weeks and desperate to ride again im seeking some help.

Below 3k revs its hard to hear, above it becomes painfull.

I checked my oil and that was really low so im hoping it wasnt that

I've topped that up, surely the bike wouldnt even move if it was seizing?

Basically i really need to know if anyones had the same problem, if so was it the cam chain tensioner failing?
I bought a haynes manual and read the forums and its got all the tell tail signs.

Me and a friend loosened the tensioner and reset it which stopped the noise *we think*. I took it down the road and straight away started again.

Now, im sorry about the essay and would highly apprecihate any help.

Thanks guys, Rick.

"checked my oil and that was really low"
The bad news is that low oil often results in shagged big ends and loud knocking noises.
The result is that if this is the case you will need a replacement engine, and they are about £250 -450 from a breaker or ebay.

Thats what i didnt want to hear.
Thanks for your help though.

Would my bike still run fine if that was the case though?

My great uncle had a listen and he's been working with engines all his life and he seems to think its cam chain aswell?
im really baffled, might ride it upto a garage tommorrow.

Whatever it is I would stop riding (running) it, if your local garage is any good see if they will pick it up. You could be making a bad problem terminal.

They will pick it up for £40..
And there really expensive, proper suzuki garage though so it would be worth it.
Unfortunatly only way to work today was bike.. seemed fine. Just miss riding too much!

Its the same tone whatever happens, just gets quicker.

Yes mate, took it to a garage said the bottom ends gone and its terminal, picked up a second hand engine (9500 miles) off ebay for £365 with delivery, hopefully getting it monday / tuesday.

Lovely. At least now you've got a project and a good source of spares!
