After 4 months of doing the job. HR extracted the digit and sent me a new contract of employment. Despite moving 2 salary bands it is only worth 3.5%. Talking to my new boss he tells me UK HR wanted to offer less. The reason being I was being paid above the top step of my incorrect grade, so the regrading has only corrected that anomaly. and given me scope to move steps again. Then he dropped but at least on your new grade you will be entitled to upto 10% bonus.

Not on the contract UK HR have sent where bonus is excluded. The rest of his team in the States get it. But little old me in blighty doesn't. And back on 3 months notice period to stop me spitting my dummy

Surely that's a gripe Tim? Or a smile of resignation?

TBH Mike. I just just glad that I now have a role that I am happy with. The former incumbent was a "Solution Manager, in that he held responsibility for the end to end operation and support of a business solution. In this case it was an invoice routing and approval solution, used by over 5000 users, 50 counties, interfacing with multiple ERP, different tax regimes etc. Approval rules etc. I have just spent the past 3 months trying to get to grips with GST tax rules in India. I inherited it on his departure, with still half of the platforms on windows 2003. Plus some old SAP systems, etc. But also to act as the technical project manager to the financial systems IT group based in the States.

I have been bumming around the organisation for the past 10 years trying to find an appropriate role. I am still techy, but too senior to be hands on. In the previous regime, I was scheduled for the chop as not based in France so no positions were coming my way. I would get the odd interesting assignment where they needed my particular skillset. But it was always job done, thanks. Last one was to write the RFP for a major upgrade to a globally deployed PLM solution. Once done, vendor selected, go home. As I didn't have a job. I had been "Downgraded" and when we were acquired. Consultants were hired to map jobs to grades, so I didn't fit salary wise into the grading system and was being paid above my grade. So I have been given a two grade "Promotion" so now fit into a salary range and a step to give me something in the wallet.

The new boss knows they are not being generous, but has said that at least I now have scope for advancement. and in the meantime he is looking at the bonus situation as he had not argued too hard thinking I had the eligibility to a potential 10%.

Fair enough Tim, I can appreciate you feeling happy to now have a defined role and contract to match.
