Default Wont start, but will bump start :(

Hey there all .. tried a quick search, but didnt seem to like me

Havent had a problem with the SV650s (2001) until tonight. Rode it to training, and after training I tried to start it and the ignition button does nothing. All lights etc work, and I could roll (bump) start it in 1st so managed to get home. Tried it again at home, but still a dead ignition button.

Kill switch wasnt on, clutch was in, stand was up etc etc etc .. only thing I can think is either a fuse, or the clutch isnt registering that its being held in?

Has anyone had this problem before? Any suggestions for me to try?

Where are the fuses on these baby's?

Cheers .. hope its nothing too serious, which it shouldnt be.

Try taking the little plug off that goes to the clutch leaver and poking a bit of wire in each terminal kinda shorting the plug out. It sounds like a faulty clutch switch and this will override it!

Ill check the plug .. and maybe bypass it like you said. Do you think it could be a fuse on the starter? Any idea where I find fuses

There is a fuse under the right hand black panel just below the riders seat (the panel you remove to take seat off). There is a little green cover, this is actually the starter relay ... there is a fuse in there ... but I think if that pops NOTHING works

Havent tried the wire bypass thing yet, but took the plug off the clutch and looks ok, and yeah .. the fuse under the seat is ok. Now to find a piece of wire.

Any other suggestions people?

Why is it that if you resort to hitting stuff with a hammer and swearing at it at the start of problem solving .. it never works, but try it as a last resort and it fixes the "problem".

Checked ignition fuse, all good.
Put wire in clutch switch to see if it was faulty, all good.
Smashed the starter button a bit and IT WORKS I guess its just a dodgy button ..

Cheers for your suggestions Blue.

I vote that the first suggestion from now on is "hit it with a hammer".
