Just wondering what sort of prices people have bought their bikes back off the insurance companies for after write off.
Just curious as I think mine could be written off and I would like to get a feel of what it might cost to buy back. |

depends how bad a write off it is, usually between 500 - 1000 for a cat c bike.

Sounds about right, after I binned mine the Insurance said I could buy my cat C bike back for £900. But I couldn't source any of the parts second hand so it would of cost nearly two grand to buy new bits, also the hassle of having to take it to a vehicle inspector to have it approved (and to pay around £90 for the privilege). And don't forget that the bike will always show up on the Insurance data base as a cat C write off, which will also affect its resale value. So I just got the money and put it towards my new bike.

I got my CAT C SV back for the grand sum of ...
£0 It is almost back on the road (awaiting V5 arrival so it can be taxed, few other minor issue to sort), cost about £400 to fix (might be more if I sort out cosmetics - major costs were straightening front wheel, new clocks (not essential but made life easier), new headlamp and clamps, 2nd hand subframe + plastics, 2nd hand pillion footpegs, new levers and new indicators at front). UPDATE - funnily enough they have decided to write it off.
Repair cost is £2350. They have offered me £3000 less xs of £200. If I want to buy it back they want £1300 so that looks unlikely. I have refused the initial offer due to it having extras on and being in absolutely fantastic condition. |
