17.5 litres my ****!
So I've been experimenting with how much fuel goes in...
A number of times I've run it down to the constant fuel light, and filled up to find it's brimmed after 14 litres max.... so that suggests I have 3.5 litres left? Well rode for about 15-20 miles after the constant light... and ran out of fuel. Fortunately I was at home so could hop in the car to get petrol... but I really don't reckon the tank's got a 17.5 litre capacity... |

Re: 17.5 litres my ****!
Surprised at that as I have done 35miles with it on at ecomomical speed[50-60 in top] when caught out by a garage being closed on the A68. I presume by being"Near home" this was in traffic?

Re: 17.5 litres my ****!
I was actually *at* home - I'd ridden home on Friday night, and was planning this morning to make my first stop a Petrol station 2 miles down the road...
I started it, it ran for about 20 seconds before coughing and giving up |

Re: 17.5 litres my ****!
theres probably still fuel in the tank even when it can no longer draw it off.
many a time i used to slosh my empty tank on the old two strokes to get a bit more in the pipes and fill the carbs |

Re: 17.5 litres my ****!
You can getting quite a bit more in if you sit there dribbling it in after it first reaches the neck. There a biggish airspace left in the hump where the filler sits, the 17litres will include that and the bit left in the bottom that acts as a bit of a sump for water/grit etc.... .
I alwaysish ride conservatively when the light starts to flash and note the mileage as there is about the same left after it comes on full time. Especially here in italy the stations can be few and far between. Have to get the thou into the constant lamp fuel to make sure I get 20euros in as nearly all the stations are unmanned and have machines that only take notes to pay for the fuel. No friendly AA men out here, my biggest fears are a flat or no fuel. |
