Quite Days
Just wondering about quite track days.
The limit is 98 Dbs. Is this based on a bike being able to pass and MOT. For example if a bike meets the noiseresrictions of an MOT then it will pass for the quite day and 98 Dbs???

Re: Quite Days
Not if it exceeds 98db
They can be very strict with the limits, and can and do turn folk away if they exceed it. However, the last quiet day I went on was anything but - full blown race bikes with full blown race systems. They sounded gorgeous, but didn't have a hope in hell of meeting the set limit. A road can with baffle in is usually under or at the 98db limit.

Re: Quite Days
Noise (decibel) level isn't checked when a bike is MOT'd, If the tester thinks it's too loud he can fail it. So, you could have a fully MOT'd bike that exceeds 100db. If you're not sure get it checked on a noise meter. You need to know at what RPM the test is done at and the distance/angle from the exhaust outlet that the test is taken at. We have a meter at work, it's not calibrated but would give an indication.

Re: Quite Days
And anyway your MOT is only valid until you ride out the test centre.
Brands trackday i di last year i was the last to arrive so with all the running about etc i was also the last to go for noise testing. He asked me to get it up to 5k revs but i knew my can had no baffle in and really needed repacking too. he asked me if i had the baffle and cos i did told me to hurry up and put it in and get going cos my group were waitign to go out on track. I got lucky. The fact i didnt have the right size bolt to hold the baffle in meant it flew out somewhere on the 1st session but thankfully there were a couple of KTMs that were way louder than my bike, so no one really noticed. But i do know peeps who were sent home so dont be risking it will you

Re: Quite Days
Some quite days are really strict.....like any MSV circuit they test every bike and you get a sticker to say you have passed.

Re: Quite Days
The last no limits track day I did was full noise, but the guy giving us the chat said that the K7 & 8 Gixxers are about 103 as standard so wouldn't pass a quiet day.
As said before MSV circuits do seem fairly strict

Re: Quite Days
So just because a motorcycle passes an MOT doesn't mean it conforms to any sort of noise restrictions. Are there no set decibel requirements for road riding???

Re: Quite Days
There probably is, but usually its only IF the tester finds it offensively loud lol

Re: Quite Days
correct, hence why bikers try to find garages with the oldest mot testers they can.
