Not sure, but the michelin website may help if you put your route in, I think you can specify type of vehicle.

From memory and depending on the route you take to the south, between £40 - £70 Each way.

I'd agree with that, cost us about 30 quidish each way to St. jean D'angely. Tolls vary from I think 6 euro's to 11. Just make sure you carry some smaller notes with you or a lots of coins. They do like to huff and puff. Put em in your tank bag for easy access too.
Tims right about the michelin site too.

Last time I did it in the car was about £50 each way - Calais to Avignon
the ViaMichelin website does driving directions and toll charges as mentioned I used a debitcard at every toll, never had to use cash If you're a real hero, you can do it overnight in one go ![]() The stretch past Lyon gets VERY busy in the summer Once you factor in the cost of petrol, coffee, tolls, tyre wear, etc. you might want to think about motorrail, although this can be expensive |

As said above. Never used the autoroute on a bike so don't know if bikes pay a cheaper toll, but it's always been equivalent to an extra tank of fuel each way in the car, 40-60 quid.
When you take the cost in perspective, that is, compared to the rest of the cost of a two week holiday, fuel, ferry, accomodation, restaurant bills, attractions, it's nothing really. It allows you to do north to south in a day so reducing the number of days you loose travelling and saving you the cost of an overnight stay half way down. And how much value do you put on one day's extra holiday? If you take a days more holiday than your entitled to off work it costs a days wages. This is an argument I often have with my [french] brother in law, who NEVER touches an autoroute regardless of distance and thinks we have too much money because we pay to use the autoroute. Drives me nuts whenever we have to travel a distance with him driving as we crawl along N routes. He sees it as an unnecessary extravagance reserved for rich people. In fact the majority of people from my wife's village would think the same way. Always interesting to learn the way different cultures think though! Last edited by -Ralph-; 17-11-07 at 08:24 PM. |

Moterrail is the best and easyist way. Close to 70 euro's each way plus other stuff. My mates just come down 2 days to Genoble by motorway. Then back road in 5 hours to Nice. great road. Let me know when your heading this way, I can ride out and pick you up for the last few hours in.
