Right this is a bit of a vague question, but what gives different cans different sounds?
What would happen if when I cut down my fuel oval one I didnt put any packing in it? Also who sells the stainless bands to rivet around the edge? Ive seen the BSAU stamped ones on ebay, but the other end of mind is stamped.

the ones i've seen, the shorter and less packed the exhaust, the louder (obviously) and harsher the sound

Length of can
width of can level of baffles and packing internally The thickness and material the can is made of all the above effect the tone and noise made by the can. |

The baffle is generally the defining characteristic of tone, IMO.

Won't have a baffle in there, dizzys art can doesn't have and thats got a lovely deep sound to it, not sure of the level of packing.

Packing makes the tone from what i've read about this....Obviously length will come into it too

To be honest I would guess that the length of the end can will make almost no difference directly.
Reason i say this is that if you look at GP cans they are often long, look at Ducati al the way to under seat, or yamaha M1 which is long. I think its primarily down to the diameter and the amount of wadding or any kinks to slow down the air movement. The short end cans are louder simply because they (can) have less wadding. |

Well, I think about 4" is coming off the fuel can, going to wrap the tube in a thin-ish layer of stainless wool, then pack the can with as much fibreglass as will fit.
Will let you know what the result is.

Hmm not sure if its possible that me and fibreglass can be caught on the same camera ... I would expect the lens to turn blue. I f###ing hate fibreglass.
(just kidding, I'll get some pics ![]()
