Default Prison for Mobile Phone Drivers

You can now face a 2 year sentence for using your phone in the car, and a review is underway wanting to make handsfree kits illegal too

Goons will be goons on the road, banning everything helps no one. I make a call every day on my way home and feel perfectly safe doing so.

Another example of Labour missing the point entirely.

The potential for a prison sentence is only if you are deemed to have been driving dangerously as well as using a phone. I don't understand how this is different to the current situation. Surely dangerous driving is dangerous driving whatever the reason for it is.

It's such an over reaction. Will they ban cars next?

There's too many people who think they know better than everyone else. How about they stop interfering and just chill out. Idiots will be idiots; don't punish us all.

It doesn't say anything in that article about a review into the use of handsfree kits. Where did you read that?

Do you use a handheld or handsfree for your calls?

That bit was on the radio - it made me look for the article.

I always use a handsfree, without fail. I use it on the motorway to phone my gf as I don't get time to when I'm at home, if I'm driving around residential areas I don't use the phone.

I can't see a problem with handsfree kits. I've got a bluetooth earpiece, but seldom bother to use it. I never use a handheld mobile when driving.

I still see drivers weaving all over the road, with a mobile phone held up in front of their face so that they can read the screen. They should certainly be prosecuted for dangerous driving.

If they're determined to punish someone jail isn't a deterrant (oddly) and they're all full. Why not ban them from driving for a month?

I don't see enough police to enforce the current mobile phone laws so I doubt anything will change.
