Hello all .
This is my first post, I'm new to the suzuki sv650 and found this site very helpful. got a problem starting the bike. it's a 2000 w plate sv650 sy k2, and brought it hoping to get it back on the road as my first big bike. it's been sat for about 8 months now, I've serviced and done all the usual checks and today ready to fire it up, and nothing ![]() Ingnition power is there, and all looks ok, but not starting. if anyone can guide me what to look for to be the most common thing or things to check that would be great. thought I'd ask, before it goes down the bike shop, and starts costing me a load of cash. anything will be a start. ![]() |

Do you pull the clutch lever in as you try and start it?

Yeah just nothing.
pulling in the clutch, pressing the start button, and no noise, nothing. Last edited by bad-sv650; 11-01-08 at 01:26 PM. |

Get the battery out and get it on a charger such as an optimate. When it's charged up, put it back in and try again, if this doesn't get it check all the fuses, including the one on the starter motor relay (follow the +ve lead from the battery, and it's the first box you come to)

The clutch must be pulled in, the red "kill switch" on the right handle bar most be in the "run" position. The sidestand should be down and the bike in neutral to start the bike.

Check that the kill switch hasn't accidentally been switched on (big red button on right hand switch gear) and check underneath the clutch lever, there is a wire that connects under there which often drops out (senses that the clutch is engaged and that the engine can be started).

As above, and Is the sidestand up? Is the bike in neutral?
Dangerous Dave's one is important too- I've fallen foul of that- very easy to knock loose without intentionally removing it. |
