Engine paint - help needed

I have a problem! when I brought my Sv I noted that there was some paint bubbling on the clutch cover and after asking about it it turns out the previous owner had an accident whilst draining the coolant, it went all over the cover. After this winters riding I now have a large patch of missing paint on the cover and some missing and bubbling on the water pump. So my questions are:

- Water colour is the engine on an SV650 K3 pointy with a main colour of sonic silver?

- How best to fix the damage?
... Spray it whilst mounted
... Remove the pump and cover and get someone to do it for me

If it's the latter who would you recommend to do it?

SPEREX engine enamel is very good, the silver is close enough to the SV engine not to be obvious. My bro did his water pump with it and it looked ok.

Deffo take it off to do it, so much easier to prepare and will look a much better job when you've done.

Take it off to repair it and do the whole cover. It will not look so odd if it does dry a slighty different shade if you spray the whole case.

Good luck, and make sure you clean the case properly before painting and spray in a dust free (or as best as you can get) enviroment.

I had lots of corrosion on mine (04 K3) the powder coating was to thin. I took the cover off and used paint stripper to remove old powder coat.

I tried a visual match for paint in Halfords and chose a Peugeot silver. This ended up dark silver and was way to dark. Off it came again. This time I used a Ford silver. It was pretty near but not exact. I tried to do a clear coat as well but everytime it ran so I took it back to bare metal again. On 4th attempt I didn't bother with the the clear coat. Looks ok, unless you look really close you won't notice the colour difference.

colour is Sonic Silver YD8..
same thing is happening to mine so I stripped off all the paint and polished it to a mirror shine... looks nice but takes ages to clean...
so going to take it off again to polish it and re spray with a high temp clear lacker.
then it will look the don... so to speak

two pack acrylic would give you a very hard wearing finish.
any local accident repair garage will have it in stock & would do it for a few quid i reckon

(make sure to take off the old paint & get it primed before its topcoated)
