Default Spec me a chain tool

I've just sold some stuff, so I think I'm going to buy a chain tool... Never have til now, but it's pretty much the only job I can't do myself now so even though it doesn't make a lot of financial sense, it'd be nice to have one... But which? There's so many out there, and no doubt most are complete tat. I want it to be durable and easy to use, I've done enough mucking about with inadequate tools in the past. Budget is pretty negotiable but obviously I'd rather spend less than more

The dealers all buy the original DID one because it doesn't break - you might need to replace the pins after a while but the unit itself is hugely over-engineeered, unlike the ones you'll get from M+P and suchlike.

I used to wholesale them to dealers, and all of them always ordered spare pins so they were never stuck half way through a job. Cost about 100 quid but worth every penny.

Just bought myself one today, Ive been nicking it off a mate whenever I needed one in the past, so I thought it was about time to get one. Cost me ?45 from a local bike shop. Seems pretty good and worked a treat. Cant remember the name off the top of my head but it isnt a name I recognise.

I also treated myself to a cordless impact driver...... pesky front sprocket nut aint laughin' no more!!!

I've had a few over time, and these days money isn't such a problem, but if I were to do my own again the I'd get one of these.

Not cheap ( just under ?100), but a professional tool, B&C express carry the tool and spares, as do Demon tweeks I believe.

Cheers Mark

I found it not financially viable to bother with one. Had my chain fitted for only £8 at home so I could have 8 chains fitted before I made my money back.

If you're gonna buy one that'll last the course, I suppose it has to be the Whale Tool (as seen above). I've always got by with the angle grinder (for splitting) and two hammers (for joining) myself.

Then making sure the peens are 90deg off with a cylindrical hitting thingy is a bit of a pig too too ... I ended up using some mole grips on the shiny/ally end so I could make it consistent, then unclamp, move 90deg and hit again.

But I have never used anything else to say if it is better or worse than the alternatives!

I think whale/B&C do a breaker ... a riveter and a breaker-riveter ... that price is for a breaker only!!

Might have got the wrong link sorry.

Mine was the rivetter only - after all, who needs a breaker? Thats what an angle grinder is for!

BB.

Ah - its this one: CBT480-RVT, put that code into the b & c website and it comes up - 58.89.
