Nearly lost the bike on a greasy roundabout....

Just on the way to mates- turning left on a mini roundabout and I felt the rear end slipping out- oh f**K!. Then the bike started going down- I kicked the road with my left leg and much to my relief got upright again.

Being driven to my mate's local shortly after, spotted that the approach to the roundabout and the junction itself was covered in something slippery looking- probly oil. On the way back, he managed to get the back wheels out even with traction on.

So- how long should I be riding tentative, like? The ride back felt fairly safe on left handers (though I wasn't leaning over as much as the incident), so I'm hoping the tyres are not too slicked up. Will wash them anyway tomorrow just in case...

Incidentally- there's a lovely Slovak girl works in his local (not telling YOU LOT where it is!!)- had a reall hubba-hubba moment. I may have to wmigrate- there's also a couple of hot Slovaks in my office. They appear to make very tasty ladies over there....

That's the important stuff out of the way, glad you kept it up.

Take a look at the rear. If anything stayed on the tyre it's probably been scrubbed off already, a quick scrub & wash to be safe.

I did a fair old ride yesterday and had no problems with the back tyre- though now I have a puncture. Oh joy (see my puncture repair thread...).

Yeah right- and gullible has been taken out of this year's dictionary!!!

The roads are really greesey at the moment... the combination of:
- Lots of morning dew building up on the roads
- Lack of strong sun to dry up the roads
- Lack of rain to wash the crap off the roads
is leaving the roads constantly covered in filth as the water lying on the road collects absorbs much of the exhaust deposits and other crap on the road, and keeps it there.

At the moment I keep finding on some straight open roads that when I think I'm fine to open it up fully in 3rd gear, I'm still getting the back wheel not fully gripping!

Surbiton? Sexy ladies? No, never! I dont beleive it, ive only seen munters around there!

What roundabout was it though mate? Just incase I'm riding around that place. I've come across a few diesal slicks myself, seems some poepl arnt being carefull when they fill up

Well- Worcester Park, actually- was one of the back roads near the station where the grease was- not your average winter slimyness, but a long slick- looks like it's been well trod in by cars etc and dragged along the road. So you should be fairly safe, Matt!

Yeah- not too many tasty ladies in Surbiton- I reckon they emigrate to London when it comes to the social hours. All you get left is the grotty kids with really awful clothes and voices- you know- "eeeeeyAAAAAAH!" (translation- "Here!"). Local nightclub fodder.
