Squeeky brakes after trackday?
Hello folks. Back from Silverstone and my brakes are squeaking. Never done it before as far as I know. When I felt the disc to see if they were scored they were pretty hot but I hadn't used them a lot on the way home. What's going on?

Dont quote me, but it's probably because you have been braking hard on the track & the pads have glazed over. Bob them out, sand with some sand paper, put them back & they should be fine.

A new Daytona with 1600 miles on the clock?! I'll be a bit miffed if they are.

Chamfer the front of the pads by 1mm on the leading edge.
Should stop it completely. C |

Re: Squeeky brakes after trackday?
Been told that it might be crud and brake dust stopping the piston retracting which is why the discs were hot. Is that a possibility? Also been told that I should change the brake fluid which seems nuts to me.

Re: Squeeky brakes after trackday?
Very possible. My first choice would have been brake dust making them squeal, but I'd presumed that because it was a new bike, you'd already cleaned it and it was spanky and sparkly. Champfering them will still fix it as it changes the resonance frequency. a piece of tinfoil between the pad and the piston also fixes it. anything that stops or changes the the resonance.
Dunno why you'd need to change the fluid though. Sounds strange. It would indicate that your bike has the wrong DOT in it and why would that be so? C Last edited by Berlin; 03-04-08 at 10:38 AM. |

Re: Squeeky brakes after trackday?
OK, start out with the obvious points.
1) Have you got plenty of brake pad left? (I'd be very surprised if you'd killed a set of pads in 2000 miles but lets just check anyway) 2) If you get the front wheel off the ground and turn it by hand, are the brakes binding? (Again, they shouldn't be, but let's check) 3) If all appears OK, you can pop the pads out, put a little copper grease on the back and put them back in, you don't need much. Don't mix the pads up, they've bedded in to the disc surface, they may go in to either side of either caliper, but then they'll be less good while they bed back in. HTH Jambo
