Default What's A Good Upgrade?

I've had my SV for a couple of months now and I want to start saving to upgrade to an inline 4 sometime in the near future (Mind you I'm still in high school, so this money won't come fast... Thats why I want to start now so I could possibly have the money by next spring). I was wondering what kind of bike some of yall would suggest?

I rode my friend's GSXR 1000 the other day and that thing just had way to much power. I'd end up killing myself on that bike or getting into a bunch of trouble... So I was thinking somewhere along the lines of a 600cc sport bike, or maybe even a GSXR 750 tops. Any specific brand name that you guys would recommend and why?

Thanks

kAWASAKI zx6-r, NO QUESTIONS.

Because its the best looking 600 at the moment, and i think you guys in the US get better paint schemes than us as well.

it is more than quick enough, one of the magazines over here clocked it at a genuine 162MPH.

but i am biased!!

If you have only had it a couple of months, and only been riding for that kind of time, then you probably are nowhere near having used the SV to anywhere near its capabilities.

I know at having ridden my SV for 18 months or so I still wasnt, and I had done 12,000 miles on it.

The SV is a perfectly good bike, maybe not as flash as your friends GSXR, or as fast in a straight line, but it IS still very capable of getting to the legal speeds not that far behind him, and easier to keep it at those speeds.

I ended up changing because my SV was totalled in an accident, but if I hadn't had that incident I would still be happy on my SV.

I would say stay on the SV for a while longer, look at and try out loads of other bikes, but dont be blinded by the flasher looking, or bigger numbered bikes out there.

Oh and if you REALLY have to change, get a Kawasaki Z750, a real sized bike rather than the toy that is a ZX-6R ( hehe neio)

I'd pretty much agree with Soulkiss EXCEPT for the bit about the Z750 !!

After all if it's a sportsbike you want the Z's hardly gonna fit the bill is it ??

However, if you want to move away from the 'plastic fantastics' then I would suggest looking at :-

Suzuki SV 1000

Kawasaki Z 1000

Aprillia Tuono

But then again, if a sportsbike is what you truly want then I think your instinct for the Gixxer 750 is correct - IMHO probably the best 'realworld' sportsbike on the market.

I agree. I rode about 12000 miles on mine before I totalled it - my fault not the bikes and have been so impressed with the SV that I have bought another.
The only thing a larger capacity bike has got going for it really is that it is faster in a straight line - Big deal
The SV, in the right hands would give some of the race reps a run for thier money round the twisties.
If it's handling you want then put your money towards suspension upgrades instead of a different bike
At the end of the day it's down to rider ability, not cubic capacity. Hey i like that saying

Which 600? Really, that's a question only you can answer - you need to go test ride them to see how they fit you.

I'd go so far as to say the performance difference between them won't be noticeable, nor the handling differences (to you). Thus, the only things that matter are...does your body shape fit it, and do you think it looks good!

So back to the first statement...it's only a question you can answer

Now if you were going for the 750 I can say you'll notice the power difference (different delivery rather than massively more powerful, but it is still more powerful).

Muffles, can I ask how your GSXR was stolen? What security did you have on it. Where did you leave it? Etc.

Only that I'm just about to get something similar and I'd like to avoid a theft if possible. It will have a datatool alarm, alphadot and a disc lock but do I need more?

(Sorry for the thread hijack)

What? Nobody is going to jump on this chap for suggesting that SV to IL4 is an upgrade? We really are a friendly bunch!

Mate, you've already got more power than you need and better handling than you can exploit, unless you are the new Colin Edwards of course. I'd say stick with the SV and blow your cash on women and alcohol, at least for a couple of years, then get a Daytona 675.
