Default Company Car Mileage Allowance

Mine was previously 10p per mile........I just had a memo saying that following review it has gone up..................

.........to 11p

However for people with deisel company cars they have gone from 12p ....to 10p

What does everyone else get per mile for company cars (not when using you private car)

see above, I was beaten to the post. but it is 11p for diesel from 1/1/08. But rates are now well out of sync with current prices and are only scheduled for review 1st July

So much for taking wear and tear into account?

10p per mile for diesel.

My 2003 focus TDI (hardly flash) uses about 11p per mile in Diesel alone.

Can't you claim the rest back from the tax man? Up to 40p per mile? I think thats if you take the allowance option, rather than a company car option.

I don't have that problem.

It's for a company car. What does wear & tear have to do with it ?

If we use out own vehicle, then we get about 35p a mile or something like that. They changed the policy recently that sadi fi the journey was over 50 miles, then we had to hire car through the company, then just clim back the fuel used via fuul reciept! Its a pain, because if i have to travel to uxbridge, by bike is the fastest option, but they wont pay for the fuel as its 56 miles round trip. I have to go in a fiat punto or by tube (Both about 2 and a half hour journey (50 mins on the bike)

Fuel rate policy

The company bases its fuel rate allowance on AA recommendations subject to the cap imposed by the Inland Revenue.

The rates are usually reviewed twice a year. The last review was in January 2008, although no changes were made as our rates were in line with the policy.

In theory what should happen is that the rates should track the AA rates both up and down. In practice what has tended to happen is that the rates have tracked the increases up, but not come down.

Fuel bands
Historically we have had an agreement with the Inland Revenue that has enabled us to use different bands to their standard approach.

The current Legal & General bands are up to and including two litres, and above two litres.

The Inland Revenue has withdrawn this agreement and from 1 April 2008 we will have to use their standard bands as follows:
  • 1400cc and below
  • 1401cc to 2000cc
  • Above 2000cc
However we will continue to use the same policy of paying the amount recommended by the AA, subject to the cap imposed by the Inland Revenue.
New rates
New rates from 1 April 2008We have reviewed the rates based on the current AA data and the new Revenue structure.

The table below shows the new rates with effect from 1 April 2008. Unfortunately the Inland Revenue maximum for petrol cars up to 1400cc is below our current rate for cars up to two litres and consequently the rate we are able to pay has fallen, though for most other categories the amount has increased. Bracketed figure shows current rate.

Private cars
The current bands will remain in place. The rates have been benchmarked against the AA data and will remain unchanged as they are in line with our policy.

When I used a private car I used to get 38p per mile. I was doing 4k a month at the time and was getting an extra ?1700 in expenses at the time on top of my normal salary.................which would have been great if the car I had hadnt kept falling to pieces.
