Angry B*gg*r

Well, I've had a good run, a nice 4 years of being left alone and just getting on with it and now that's all about to change. I'm getting a trainee.

I really don't want one. I don't have time with my workload and the deadlines I constantly have to stand around all day trying to teach someone the job. It isn't my job to train people, I'm not happy about being expected to train them on the machines, and I certainly don't have the patience

My boss knows I'm not happy. He hovered around for nearly the whole day yesterday before finally plucking up the courage to tell me. Then he ran away and hid in his office.

He starts interviews tomorrow. I have a weeks grace before I get lumbered. What really bothers me is his record of employing people isn't very good. Of the 8 he's employed over the last 2 years, only one was any good and has stayed.

Apparently the lads at work are already running a book on how long the new person will last under my tutelage. One hour seems favourite!

Dont you get a say on who the newbie is, given that you're the trainer etc..

Like Shifter said - what do you do?

I can understand you being frusturated at training someone..how long will you need to train them for?

Try of think of it a different way; ok it is annoying but your boss must think you are more than capeable if he has asked you do it. You can use the trainee to add to your continued professional development (CPD).

Give it a go - if it gets too much then speak to your boss and perhaps the trainee can be split between you and someone else. Saves you having him/her under your feet all day?

I work for a company making flight cases. I do all the intrenal fittings, which means training someone not only to use the hot glue gun, but also three different saws and the router.

Unfortunately, the guy who would normally be lumbered with a trainee is the one leaving. He always originally trained them because they couldn't afford to take me out of production. There are so many cases that only I can do.............and I have 15 huge ones coming through at the moment. I just honestly don't have time to train anyone, but I'm going to have to.

Don't spose you could teach them to do a flight case for a Korg Triton, then give it to me could you?
Back on topic though, you might be lucky and get someone who learns fast and you really get on with!

i can only sympathise lissa. my gaffer always seem to favour me for that role as well.
its a very tense situation when a newbie starts and no one knows whos getting the job, but always a sigh of relief to everyone else when they walk over to my bay. they all sit back and enjoy the fun then.

i find theyre not interested in work or learn a job they just want the money and want to do very little for it.

Exactly! The last few we've employed have sometimes stayed for up to a week, but once they realise they are expected to actually WORK for their money, they bolt!
