Hiya all
![]() I've already searched the forum and read some stuff about this, but just to check on something... My brand new rear tyre (Bridgestone BT014) is pretty sticky because of the film that they put over the top - just rolling the bike out of the garage and back again made a whole load of crap and moss and stones stick to the tyre. Is it ok to leave it like this for riding or is it worth taking a scour to it to try and get rid of some of the film beforehand? Cheers everyone! |

Most people will probably advise that riding the bike is the best way of scrubbing the tyre in and tell you why (I cannot)- as long as you take care, you'll be fine- increase your cornering angle gradually- should be fine after 100 miles.

+1 .......? 100 miles though ? If you are progressive and gradually increasing lean I would be happy with only around 10, it doesnt take long. Just dont bimble along at 30 mph and expect to go banzai and touch the pegs down on teh next corner, build up to it. On a track practice session we are normally good to go after 3 or 4 laps.

Had a close shave last week with new tyres.
They wern't(what i would call fully scrubbed in)and as i had just set off from home .they were cold.Approached the first junction i came to to get on the main road and after it was safe to move out i probably gave it more throttle than i should have(oops schoolboy error). The next thing i know the back end is snaking about everywhere and i have to admit i thought i'd lost it ![]() BE CAREFUL ON NEW TYRES. That is all. |

Cold tyres is a big problem by itself. New or not, you need to get temperature into them.

I am not sure about a scour, but some hot soapy water might aid getting rid of some of the initial goo?
![]() ![]() You are still going to have to take care to begin with, but you knew that anyway ![]() |

Cheers people!
Yeah I took my bike for a ride yesterday after work, and all was good. If anything the tyre was already gripper than the Dunlop that used to be there! I was worried about stones sticking to that sticky film on the tyre but nowt to worry about there either. Thanks loads for all the help you've given to all the newbie questions I've been asking on this forum, I really appreciate it. ![]() ![]() |
