Question Do you know what an F1 fault is?

Hi Folks,

I have recently bought a beautiful SV650S K3 which is entirely stock, apart from a double bubble screen and a tail tidy.

When I bought the bike from a dealer I asked for an alarm and they fitted a Datatool that has a remote thingie (sorry for lack of knowledge here) to switch it on with.

Carol went to work the other day and I decided to have a play with Silvie because I was a little bored.

When I turned on the ignition, the bike was sat on the stand and was just off vertical. A red light came on and started to flash then the engine failed to start. I had heard the fuel injection pump priming (I think that is what that sound was) and the fuel light did come on but it was not yet a dry tank.

On the speedo screen a fault listing came up and said F1 Fault.

I have looked through the owners manual that came with the bike, but could not find any listings of what this meant. However after half an hour and while I was trying to explain to Carol that I had broken our new bike, it started first time when she told me to try it.

So I forgot about it until carol took us out for a ride (have I mentioned that I failed my DAS by crashing into my instructor while riding a pokey CG125?) and we pulled in to a petrol station for some fuel. After she had filled it up (I am not good with things that can blow up) and I had paid the bike failed to start and displayed the F1 fault sign again. This time she had to believe that I was just not being a thickie.

So if any of you lovely people out there in SV-Land could help me with this I would be terribly grateful and Carol will stop thinking I am a bike destroying harpie!

Afraid I can't be much help on the solution, but mine's been doing that recently. Get the nasty F1 light, turn off, turn back on and it all works. My understanding (I could well be wrong though) is that there is a hold load of things the F1 light could be and there is a way to display a diagnostic code. However, there is no history held on the bike and the F1 light has to be on. As with most things the bike is bound to behave perfectly at the dealers.

Like I said not much help. Sorry!!

Mine has an FI indicator rather than an F1 ....unless you paid for the 800bhp option that is!

Its more than likely something to do with the alarm. Did you get any user manual with it?

Quite often these alarms have some form of engine immobiliser and this might well show up as an error on the bike. Make sure the alarm is properly disabled before you attempt to start it each time.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the FI error was to do with the fuel injection system?

if you put the bike onto dealer mode it will throw up a fault code then just find the list of codes and see wot the number you have says is the problem.

This one I think.

http://www.tl1000.com/faq/fi_codes.htm

Now just to wait until the fault light comes on, then take the seat off, put the paper clip in and try and work out the issue!!
