Default Stalling on Reving

Hi all,

Went out to the bike this morning and, in short, it fires up and runs at tick over (around 1,000 revs) but as soon as you put anything more than a touch of gas on it stalls. Exhaust is also popping occasionally.

Bike's been stood out in some pretty heavy rain over the past week (been away and forgot to put cover on) so I'm guessing it could be down to that.

I'm doing a 11,000 service on it on saturday so will also drain the carbs and see if that sorts it, but thought I'd see if anyone could think of anything else worth trying if that doesn't sure it.

Thanks

Mike

the idle is too low, up it to about 1300 i think and that should sort it.

Thanks I'll give it a try, but it doesn't stall as it drops back down the revs, it "chokes" as you put the Revs on, if that makes sense?

Cheers

Update.

Checked the idle speed and tweeked it up a bit but still same problem.

Completed 11,000 service and also drained and cleaned the carbs, bike fired up and was running fine, took it for spin and no problems!

However............... this morning started her up, left her to warm up and then........ same problem, as soon as I apply any throttle stutter and stall.

I'm gonna check the carbs again tonight as there seemed like there was a lot to drain in the rear and I want to see if thats the same. If so - any ideas?

Thanks

Mike

Have you tried starting it up, then leaving it to idle for 5-10 minutes to wardm it through before giving it some throttle? Maybe that would tell you if the choke is working properly? Can't be much if it ran ok when warmed up and if your choke cable has snapped.....

Mine has done exactly the same this morning, had to resort to my son's Honda to get to work
I would say that the plugs are wet. If it's not raining tonight, I'll dig deeper.
I washed mine on Saturday & it's stood since then, so water has probably got around the sparkies.

Skidmarx,

Thanks, but yep have tried that, even when warm still the same.

Just nipped home and drained the carbs, back still seems to have a lot more in than the front.

Mister C - Suppose it's good that its not just me! I had my plugs out cleaned, gapped and back in on Saturday, when I serviced, and ran fine for the test ride after and no rain or wash since, so I think I can discount water for mine. Hope you get yours sorted - I had a similar prob before and think it was water in the tank. Try that - this time though no sign of water in the samples I have taken.

Couple of things I'm going to give a go tonight,
Check the fuel vaccum tap, fuel filter, go and get some fresh petrol, may be pick up a bottle of additive. Drain the carbs (again!) run the petrol through and see how we go.

I guess it could all be down to a bit of dodgy petrol. Fingers crossed!

Failing that does anyone know a good mechanic in Cardiff?

Cheers

Mike

Well, so far so good,

Checked the fuel pipes, taps, pump and all ok, drained tank, fresh fuel and half a bottle of wynns.

All seems sweet, took it for a blast to run some fuel through and seemed fine. Left it for a couple of hours and started again first time.

Fingers crossed for the morning!
