Sunday IAM laid on test rides from local dealers.
Was a great day, Gixer 750, B-King, CBR600RR and then R6, only that went back inside a van
going round a left hand bend, very tight 90 degree and the front washed away from me. Was very surprised as I honestly don't think I went into the bend too fast (I know the road well) & didn't touch the brakes. Couldn't see anything on the road, just hard & shiny from wear.
Leaning over and lowsiding I just slide along the ground in my leathers so no damage to me or my helmet.
As I obviously hadn't finished taking the bend, the momentum meant that both me & the bike slide to the other side of the road. Fortunately the car coming towards me was able to stop in time. The bike must have hit the kerb on the far side of the road (I don't remember, but from the damage sustained)
Damage: Front wheel - substantial dent, tyre worn down at same point. Right Fork snapped at the bottom (it had lovely clean fork oil in it). Front subframe snapped. The left crash bung did an admiral job but too repair to pristine condition as opposed to tatty but safe rideable condition would be Headlight, front fairing, clip on, lever, 2 x indicators, gearlever, front & rear peg, rear plastics, oh and swing arm sadly there was no crash bobbins on the swingarm. (I would highly recommend them)
The bike had about 495 miles on it

Gutted, so which bike was it you dropped out of that lot

At least came out relatively pain free, do you have to pay an excess as part of the test ride terms?

At least now I dont have to dodge the rudey avatar pick at work anymore lol

Grand excess, looks a write off.

Also looks to be a grand to repair with ebay parts, but they want cost price for the bike not value it now is.

Sorry to hear about this Stu, but at least your OK (Although I guess you're feeling a sharp stabbing pain in your wallet right about now).

Does this mean the IAM are going to take away your pipe and slippers now (Or do they just get to take the pi$$ for the next couple of years )

holy ****, I thought they were normally £500 excess I think I would cry.

So do you have to pay the Grand and have to buy the bike or what?

I would guess you don't get anything back for the £1000 - and thinking about it from a dealer's perspective, they wouldn't/couldn't sell it to you for what it's now worth (i.e. a salvage price) - unless the insurance let them keep the salvage and they sold it for a minimal price to you? What I mean is - the dealer needs to get the mony from the bike or it's money just thrown away for them, isn't it?

I would be tempted to find out how much the dealer's insurance would want for salvage...might get a pretty cheap R6...

Btw what were the tyres like on it? Was it perhaps the case that no-one had really pushed it so you were on an un-scrubbed bit of the tyre?

Don't have to buy the bike, it's just if it was offered at ins. w/o buyback value then I might have been able to come out of this with something given the huge amount of cosmetic damage.

As it is - just the £1,000.
No point crying over spilt fork oil - just gutted at the waste. (of my £ & the once perfectly good R6)
