Question Service before trip or after?

I am have just rang Crescent Suzuki to get a quote for a service ( 7.5k )
They want £250 + vat.

I am going on a tour round the UK next month for a week.

Question is do I have it serviced now before or after, when I return.

My K4 has only done 5k miles and its last service was March last year. ( 4k )

I am proper skint at the mo.

What do you think?

Well, its only oil and filter right? You could do that yourself for less than £40 with stuff from halfords...

You need to check the plugs as well for that one, but all the parts don't cost much.

Drop the oil and filter, change the plugs (regardless)

Cost is about ?40

So I would say the money should not be the issue.

The age of the exsisting oil would have me err on changing it before.

If it were me I'd get it done before. That way you know its sorted and also buy getting a garage to do it, if like me you arent very mechanically minded they might pick up on some other stuff to.

I.e when my GSXR went in for its service the other day they warned me that my brake pads dont have a lot of life left in them and my clutch cable is on its last legs, these are things I woudlnt have necessarily noticed had I done a DIY service...

I'm doing a trip to Scotland and another one to France this year as well, so I know that before I go I'll need to get the front pads done, rather than going and wearing them out whilst I'm away and then fretting about getting them changed when I dont know the area that I'm in.

I'm probably being over cautious, but I want to enjoy my long trips rather than worrying about stupid stuff.

I've just saved myself over £400 by doing a full service inc Valve clearances.

I'm not only chuffed, but amazed at actually, if you have a spare afternoon / morning and take your time and its not too taxing!

Defo before.

Peace of mind on your trip.

Set a day aside, a bit of planning/reading up and DIY the filters and plugs and oil.

Have a check of your swingarm/head and wheel bearings too.

That is a terrible quote even for the major major 15k!
