cos i've been off-roading my sv, thanks to a little encouragement from a ford focus, and apparently the fastest way to dismount is to use a telegraph pole!
Whilst riding home two weeks ago i came up behind two cars crawling along at 30-32 mph in a 40 zone, follow them through the bend, indicate, pull out, accelerate up to 40 then.. enter matrix slow mo mode.... a single flash from the cars indicator, a sudden lane change to the one i'm occupying, and i'm heading over the curb for the hedgerow. I should have let go, but i thought 'no i've got this' and i was wrong. Sticking out of the hedge was a telegraph pole, a very solid, and very stationary telegraph pole. I almost missed it, the bike only carved out a small divet with the footpeg; problem was my foot was still on it, and whilst the bike carried on to torpedo the pub car park, i spun off out in to the road for some impromptu break dancing exit matrix mode so i'm lying in the road doing my limb count and i realise my foot is under my knee but otherwise there doesn't seem to be anything serious, i unfold my shattered leg and apply pressure to the open wound as people start to rush out of the pub. Between my entirely girly screams i shout for an ambulance and then begin to fend off the drunken crowd who want to carry me into the pub and/or rip my crash helmet off. Lukily i find the sober nominated driver type and get him on my side and he starts to post sentries up and down the road. Remarkably my mobile phone survived the crash so i get my new guardian angel (he was lit up by the overhead streetlight) to phone a friend from my house less then a mile away and get him to head over, he arrives just before the ambulance and takes over protecting me from **** heads. The paramedics arrive and so i can finally take my crash helmet off, they then cut off all my clothes looking for other injuries but not until that blessed first shot of morphine, they splint my leg, i scream some more, and at last i'm in the ambulance where i finally relax. Shock then kicks in pretty hard and i start to shake violently before the nice man giives me shot number two, aaaaaaaaaahhhh. So to cut whats becomming a long story short, two weeks and three bouts of surgery later i have plates on both my tibia and fibula and i'm sent home on crutches with swollen hands and bruised ribs, it's a little tricky to say the least. I am lucky to be alive. Despite all the pain, and the reccuring dreams of the impending telegraph pole, i find myself in good spirit. Now i need to sort my life out again: i was on probation at my new job so i don't qualify for sick pay i was supposed to move house this weekend so now i'm paying rent on two houses i can't get hold of the cops that attended to find out who tried to kill me my insurance is up for renewal in a few days Anyone know a good legal firm to hand this mess to? ps. i'm glad i ride with my toes on the pegs or i'd be short one foot! |

Can't help with your question I'm afraid.
Get well soon, and hope it all works out for you. What state is the bike in?

Sounds only too familiar mate. I feel your pain in being stuck on crutches! Hope the leg makes a speedy recovery....
Have you contacted the police to find out who is dealing with it? How about going back to the pub to see if you can source any witnesses? |

Well i hope the police got the details of the driver, they certainly didn't come over to say sorry.
The bike doesn't look too bad, might not be a right off, thought one side hit the telegraph pole then the other hit a parked car then it hit the road on the first side again so maybe. frame appears undamaged though. and it'd just had it's 4k service and a new rear tyre (roadsmart - bloody brilliant compared to d220) grrrrrrrrrrr. |

Bloody hell that sounds nasty. GWS mate
![]() As for the legal stuff, give White Dalton a call. They are a pleasure to deal with and know their stuff (Law firm and all partners are bikers) They were a great help to me after my Freelander assisted aerial dismount. |
