why does my wireless keep dropping on and off

it says its connected but keeps dropping of the server? the little icon in the bottom right has signal strengh of 90% but keeps saying server not found?

the router is on channel 6.

the pc upstairs works fine and thats on a cable into the same router?

what i cant figure out os why have a strong signal but cant connect?

any one help

I had a similar issue and I was told because a lot of my neighbours had wireless the signals were messing with mine so I changed channels to 11 (I think it was) and everything has been fine since.

Yup, as per DoubleD, it's pretty common.

We get it happening all the time in work as we have wireless terminals scattered across the country. Two different SSIDs on the same channel will cause so much interference that the signal strength is strong (as in, there'd be a lot of volume if audiable to the human ear) but it's garbled, so neither computer can work out what's going on - leading to no data throughput.

Change channels, the most popular is 11 (after 6), but your other neighbour may have that one too - so pick a random one until it works.

little app called Netstumbler for windows will scan all the channels and show you whats being used and the signal strength.

I had this prob with my last router. So I got them to send me a new one.

(but then my ISP is my employer.)

My signal goes up and down a lot (my routers in the loft) and the only consistent reason I can see why is.. very windy weather!!
I know it sounds stupid, as I work in IT, but Sunny, rainy, foggy - great signal (78 - 82) Windy... crap! 35 %!
