Default Fuel warning light, when?

I've had my SV (K3 faired) a couple of weeks now, and at first I was just filling up whenever I was near a petrol station, but I decided last time to leave it till the tank was nearly empty to judge how many miles I was getting.

I'd only done about 80 miles when the warning light came on - admittedly it was mostly all around town stopping and starting but I was expecting around 130-140 out of a full tank according to some posts on here. After about another couple of miles I found a station and filled her up, but only managed to get 12 litres in - meaning I still had 5 litres left in the tank?

So my question is, is it usual for the warning light to come on with nearly 1/3 of the tank remaining?

Yep. It then has a solid light to warn you of a remaining litre (ish). You can get <100 miles or >200 depending on your riding style. Just take a note every time you fill up and you'll get a feel for it in no time.

From memory.... and I'm getting on a bit so this could be wrong... the K3 is the only SV that ONLY has a solid light. No flashing, then going solid. Someone who has one may be along to correct me in a minute

Another reason why the K3's are the best SVs

WARNING.....fuel lights do have a slight problem of failing every noe and again. It will be present when you turn on your machine but occasionally it gets stuck and won't tell you when your about to run out.

Its happened to me, on a cold wet winters night, and I had to push the biatch home
AND, its happened to YC up a very steep hill, with me on the back

moral of the story, always open your tank and slosh it around to double check

Yep, it's a solid light.

The thing is, it's a 17 litre tank on the SV yeah? So if it was full to the brim after I put 12 litres in at the station, then that means I still had 5 litres left - to me this is far too early a warning as to be useful, cause I could do another 50 miles on that?

I never look at the quantity only the bloody price!

Slow down the filling up on the pump , let the petrol settle and you should get a fair bit more in. Do this 2 or 3 times. Brim it. I take it you are sitting on the bike? If your light comes on at anything under a hundred thats not good if you are just bopping about town. 140-150 should be pretty easy before you get the light constant.

K3 de-snorkelled,piped, and down geared for the record. Ridden moderately.

The injection models (K3+) all have a solid light - no flashing

I ran the 650 dry twice, and both times I could only get 14.2 litres in the tank (sitting on the bike holding it upright) so I'd treat the 17 litre capacity with a bit of scepticism . . .

I've managed to get 15 litres in the thou, although haven't managd to run that dry (yet)
