Have an insurance quandry:
In order to register my new bike with the DVLA i need an insurance cover note, but in order to get insurance with some companies i need a registration number, but you can't get a registration number without insurance, and the cycle continues... So firstly i need insurance on a frame number provided for a short period of time, a few weeks in order to register the bike... Secondly, the bike doesn't appear on most insurance databases, in fact the only one i've found is eBike, who don't insure on a frame number ![]() Quotes: eBike: ~£500 FC ![]() Adrian Flux: £996 FC, 526 TPFT ![]() Carole Nash: £1027 FC, £746 TPFT ![]()

I take it it's not a brand new bike then? As they can definitely get you a number without insurance...
Failing that I know Express are OK to insure on "a" registration number - when I got my new bike I didn't yet have the reg, but I needed to organise the insurance (I can't recall exactly why I needed the insurance already) so the dealer told me one of the plates they "could" assign to the bike and I changed it later... |

interesting about giving the insurance company any number and then changing it later, unfortunately i have no idea what the pool of numbers might be that the DVLA could dish out, did you tell express insurance what you did or did you just phone back later? the silly thing is the bike isn't even going to be ridden until it's registered so all i really need is the sheet of paper ![]()

i might well do that, they currently insure my DRZ and have always been very easy to deal with...

i might fire off an email to eBike and see if they'd let me do the same thing, TBH i'm fairly happy with their quote anyway, i don't think it's going to get much lower...

ah, just had a thought, the insurance cover note has to be submitted to the DVLA, who will check that it relates to the bike you are trying to register, i doubt they'll like it if the cover note has a random reg nunber on it and no mention of the vehicle's VIN or engine number

Just a thought...how do you end up with a frame with no registration number, but not a new frame? I thought it would still have an associated registration number whatever's happened to it?

the bike is stamped with a VIN and engine number from the factory so that KTM can keep track of them, but the DVLA is basically a database of registration numbers and what VIN/Engine numbers they correspond to, they don;t issue VINs, just the registration documents that relate to that particular vehicle just got off the phone with MCE, the guy was very helpful and managed to get me a quote of £576 FC or £286 TPFT, which i reckon i'll take - the only other big broker left to phone was bennets, who i'm trying to avoid...
