The wifes thinking of buying me a double-bubble smoked screen for my curvy, and when googling for the best price. she found loads of reports of the screen acting like a magnifying glass in the sun and melting the clocks!!
Has anyone had experience of this? & should I worry? Steve |

Got a dark double bubble and never had an issue, but that's not to say it won't happen.

I spotted this while looking for double bubble screens too.
From what I could gather it seemed to be the iridium screens that caused the problem. The part that melted was the body of the clock which was hidden behind the fairing, fitting the double bubble altered the angle of and magnified any light hitting the clocks. I've spoken to a couple of SV owners with smoked double bubble screens who say they have no problem, so I have bought one for my SV anyway, I'll keep an eye out for any melting, but the change in wind flow is something I really need as with the standard screen the air flowing over the screen catches the bottom of my helmet and causes a whistle (I'm not very tall). I had a powerbronze iridium double bubble a couple of years ago and it DID melt the housing around the clocks . I am now the not so proud owner of a set of melted clocks . It melted the black housing around the left indicator light . It looks like someone has put a lighter to it just enough to male it bubble up but not burn through .
If you are going to get a new screen may I suggest a black pespex with the colour of your choice on top . This will prevent the light from penertrating through to the clocks . |

It was clear double bubble screens that did this, the issues have been resolved and no reports of this happening for many years now folks!!!
